Liverpool have completed the signing of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can for a fee of around €12m (£9.77m), reports claim. It's believed that Liverpool are now chasing Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri, who has struggled on the bench at Bayern Munich.
Liverpool have been busy during this early window. Having made a bid for winger Adam Lallana on the first day of the transfer window, Liverpool have signed talented youngster Emre Can and are on the trail of Xherdan Shaqiri.
Can, known for his ball control, tricks and passing ability, has impressed at Leverkusen since joining from Bayern Munich the season before last. Despite having a buy-back clause to return him to Bayern (as a sort of loan scheme), Liverpool have beaten the Bavarians to it.
Can plays mainly as a defensive or central midfielder, and could become a welcome partner to Steven Gerrard. Liverpool, despite being outstanding in attack, have a poor defence, and Can will hopefully bring some solidity to Liverpool as well as fitting into their passing play style.
Whether Liverpool can complete the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri and/or Adam Lallan before the World Cup remains to be seen, but Rodgers certainly wants to strengthen and is doing so.
