With Manchester United linked with a host of players ahead of a summer reform, it's hard to separate fact from fiction; who will they sign?
Manchester United, in order to reach back into Europe, need to make some cracking signings, but must accept that they have lost their big-club status. But can they attract marquee players? Here's a look at how Louis van Gaal's XI could look for the first game of the season...
GK: David de Gea
Not much needs to change here; a solid season for the Spanish shot-stopper.
LB: Luke Shaw
With Patrice Evra clearly past his peak, a young left back would be greatly appreciated. Promising youngster Luke Shaw seems destined for a United move, with a £27m move having been already made.
CB: Phil Jones
It's a risk, but Louis van Gaal will have to take risks, and if Phil Jones were less physical he could be a terrific defender.
CB: Jan Vertonghen
Jan Vertonghen is clearly a world class defender (which Man United deeply require), but Tottenham Hotspur are not going anywhere soon. It's possible he could be tempted away.
Despite an indifferent season, Rafael has true potential and could be one of the league's finest attacking wing backs if played properly.
CDM: Marouane Fellaini
Don't laugh... Fellaini clearly has class, but has just had a dire campaign. However, I can see Fellaini becoming a terrific midfield man and repaying the price.
CDM: William Carvalho
After a wonderful season with Sporting CP, Carvalho is a known United target, and should arrive after the World Cup.
CM: Michael Carrick
Another player who's had a poor season. However, Carrick clearly has class, and will surely improve next season.
LAM: Juan Mata
The Spaniard has found some terrific form since joining from Chelsea, and will surely be instrumental in the United renaissance.
RAM: Wayne Rooney
What a season! Rooney is destined to become United captain and top scorer, and was undisputed best player of last season.
ST: Robin Van Persie
United must keep him! Despite a disappointing season, he's clearly a natural born goalscorer and could return to his best if properly played.
