Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has praised the appointment of Louis van Gaal as Manchester United manager, describing the 62-year-old as a 'great guy'.
Van Gaal was finally confirmed as David Moyes' successor this afternoon, putting pen to paper on a three year deal to take over at Old Trafford. He will take charge of the club after the World Cup once he has completed his duties with the Dutch national side.
Mourinho and Van Gaal worked together at Barcelona, and speaking at the UN World Food Programme, the Chelsea boss said he believed that Manchester United had made the right decision to bring in his former mentor.
[He is] a great man," he said. "Obviously, [he is] a great football manager and I'm happy that he joins me in the same country and in the Premier League.
"but more important than that is he is a great guy and I wish him good."
Van Gaal will be charged with reviving Manchester United's ailing fortunes after their worst Premier League season on record.
The Red Devils could only manager seventh place in the Premier League last season, with David Moyes being sacked just 10 months into his 6-year contract.
Chelsea meanwhile fell just short of their objectives having been knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage and finishing third in the league.
