Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has spoken of his enjoyable time working under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid. "He gave me more confidence when he arrived here, and with him I have grown a lot as a goalkeeper" he told reporters.

The 22-year-old then went on to add: "When he arrived, he made it very hard to score against us - He made this system, he knew how to make the team play. It starts with good organisation, good defence with no risk, and then a good counter-attack. We are a good team with a good coach and we are one team together and we have seen that one team can do more than 11 top players. You can see what we have achieved."

Atleti have continued to flourish under Simeone's charge and have added to their accocolades under the Argentinean with them lifting the La Liga Title for the first time in 18 years.

Los Rojiblancos have also won the Europa League, Copa Del Rey and UEFA Super Cup under Simeone's reign. An accomplishment that Courtouis has described as being "more than a fairy tale".

"When I joined [Atlético] three years ago it was not sure I would stay three years. I stayed one year and said I would see. We won the Europa League, the European Super Cup and then the next year it was the Copa del Rey and now it's the [league] title. It was unthinkable to achieve all of those things" said the Belgian international.

Courtois however has admitted that despite the success he has so far this season, his future for the next season is still shrouded in uncertainty. The 22-year-old faces stiff competition from Petr Cech for a place between to posts back at his parent club Chelsea, and Courtois states that he needs a role in the first team if he is to further his development. "With my age - the most important thing for me, is to play" he added.

The Belgian International however does admit that his final decision will depend on what the club wants. "Petr [Cech] is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, he won the golden glove in the Premier League, and I have a lot of respect for him, so we will see what Chelsea decide and what they plan to do. You guys will see the decision." he said.

Courtois alongside Diego Simeone and the rest of the "Los Colchoneros" squad will be looking to add to their silverware this coming weekend, when Atletico Madrid face their arch rivals Real Madrid in what is the first ever Champions League final derby.
