Manchester United believe they have moved within a whisker of agreeing a deal to bring Toni Kroos to Old Trafford, reports ESPN.
ESPN claim Old Trafford sources have told them that Manchester United have made significant progress in negotiations with the Bavarian club and are confident of making Kroos the first of up to six major signings this summer.
Officials from Old Trafford have been deep in negotiations with their Bayern Munich counterparts for the best part of two months and are confident the key principles of the agreement are in place.
Pep Guardiola has been reluctant to sell the 24-year-old but with just one-year left on his contract, the Bayern board have been forced to cash in.
They tried in vain to agree a new deal but Bayern refused to meet Kroos' demands and it seems they have now opted to sell the Germain international.
However, Bayern are determined to play hardball with the Red Devils and ESPN believe there is every chance the transfer saga could extend well into the summer.
Louis van Gaal is expected to sign a number of world-class stars this summer but, right now, Kroos is looking most likely to join out of a star-studded list.
Borussia Dortmund pair Mats Hummels and Marco Reus have been watched by Manchester United for some time while bids for Arturo Vidal and Cesc Fabregas are also being considered.
