The United States Mens National Team will have a tough prospect getting out of the group stages at the World Cup in Brazil next month so it looks like they've brought in a little something extra to help them out.
In a move that is so typically American, U.S. Soccer is proud to announce that they have named Grammy Award-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco as the team's Music Director for the world cup.
The recording artist won't actually travel to South America with the national team during June but he will be performing at a Fan Appreciation Day in New York at the end of May and then again in Chicago at the U.S. Soccer Fan Fest prior to the USA’s match against Ghana on June 16.
How this aids the sides chances against Germany, Portugal and Ghana it remains to be seen, but one doubts the moves influence.
From the US Soccer's press release about the signing:
"Building on the 'One Nation. One Team.' theme, Chicago-born and Grammy-winning hip-hop artist Fiasco will collaborate with U.S. Soccer in a variety of areas during the Send-Off Series and the World Cup. He will be creating Spotify playlists, in collaboration with his DJ group the SNDCLSH, and handle in-game music programming during the Send-Off Series."
The governing body also announced that they have called in graffiti artist Futura as 'Art Director.'
