The Los Angeles Lakers need to bounce back from a God-awful 2013 season and they need to do it incredibly quickly. Fans in LA won't settle for another season of tanking and quite frankly they shouldn't be forced to either.
You know it's bad when Chris Kaman and Kent Bazemore become your best performers on the hardwood.
It's not going to be easy for the side to turn it around though. Their eventually place in the lottery draft tonight might make things a tiny bit easier, but having the 3rd pick instead of the 6th pick overall is not going to make that huge of a difference.
And just because Kobe Bryant will be fit again doesn't make them infinitely better. Sure he is an improvement on Swaggy P (I'm gonna miss that guy) but one 35-year old man doesn't make a team. Look at Dirk Nowitizki for example, an incredibly talented future hall of famer who whilst still averaging 20 points a game, needs his teammates to really step up and the bench to do it's job in order for his side to succeed.
The Lakers need to go big in free agency to have any chance of making the playoffs next year. Lance Stephenson should be a man they have to go in for. The 23-year old point guard is as exciting as he is talented and "Lance will make them Dance" brings back a bit of that old Showtime Lakers.
If they can find the cap space for Carmelo Anthony then they should go all out. It will be a challenge facing off against the Knicks and Chicago Bulls but a rewarding one if they manage to start the season with him in the famous Purple and Gold.
It's going to take a lot of hard work for whoever the new Head Coach will be at Staples Center to turn the side into a Post-Season outfit, but it will be demanded by all involved with the organization from the 1st minute.
