Liverpool in talks with Southampton over Adam Lallana sale

Published 2 Comments

Liverpool are in talks with Southampton over the purchase of Adam Lallana, but the two clubs are some way off coming to an agreement, according to reports.

The Express claims the the Reds are prepared to spend £20million on the England international, but his club continue to hold firm on their objective of getting as much money as possible. The 26-year-old has many admirers for the summer, and Manchester United have also been linked heavily with a bid to capture his signature.

Lallana, coming off the back of a great season with the Saints, has never delivered a formal indication that he is looking to move, but the precarious future of Mauricio Pochettino, coupled with the fact that a number of the team’s best players are tipped to seek pastures new, may be enough to convince him that his future lies elsewhere. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has in the past revealed his admiration for Lallana as a player, and will comfortably have sufficient funds to press through a deal so long as the figure remains around the £20million mark.

It’s thought that United, and new Old Trafford coach Louis van Gaal, won’t give up on the chase for the winger without a fight, and so a protracted transfer saga could well ensue.
