The selection of quarterback Johnny Manziel with the 22nd pick in the NFL draft just a few weeks ago created a buzz of excitement in Cleveland, however now it seems that the Browns don't think all that much of the rookie passer after all.
Browns' owner, Jimmy Haslam has already said that Manziel wouldn't necessarily start for the team but it is now being reported by local media that he has been dropped even further in the depth chart.
Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL.com tweeted: "Hoyer has taken all 1st team reps so far. 2nd? Thigpen. Manziel 3rd on every drill so far."
It's a surprise to see Manziel so far down the pecking order as a first round pick. Granted, Brian Hoyer was the sole positive at quarterback for the Browns last year but Manziel should be ahead of Tyler Thigpen, who himself was only brought by the Browns just before the draft.
However, the Browns are likely trying to instil a work ethic in Manziel, something which some scouts and talent evaluators believed was missing from the former Texas A&M quarterback.
It seems likely that Manziel will soon be ahead of Thigpen and challenging Hoyer for that opening day slot.
