Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is ready to launch a raid on South Wales for two proven Premier League performers this summer and has set aside £15m to sign both Michel Vorm and Steven Caulker, according to the Western Mail.

Rodgers is desperate to strengthen his squad this summer to ensure the Reds can build on a tremendous Premier League campaign and are equipped to deal with the demands of Champions League football next term, with a transfer budget topping £60m to make that happen.

Reds fans have teased with the prospect of signing more attacking talent in the form of Adam Lallana and Pedro over the last few days, but Rodgers is aware Liverpool need defensive additions too and wants Caulker to join his Anfield revolution in a £10m summer deal.

Caulker performed strongly last season despite failing to stop Cardiff's debut Premier League campaign ending in relegation, enough to convince Rodgers that the young England international is ready to make a step up next season.

Vorm is further down on the list of transfer priorities but is thought to be available at a bargain basement price of £5m, providing Rodgers with a chance to provide first-choice stopper Simon Mignolet with genuine competition in a cut-price deal.

The former Swansea chief has worked with both players before and thinks they have what it takes to follow Joe Allen in swapping South Wales for Merseyside successfully at a reasonable cost.
