UFC Welterweight Matt Brown has been on a tear in the UFC lately. Since February 2012, 'The Immortal' has won seven straight fights, most recently defeating Brazilian Eric Silva by third round TKO.
Brown has campaigned for a title shot against 170lbs champion Johny Hendricks, however UFC President Dana White believes he needs one more fight against a better opponent. White has suggested that former Bellator Middleweight Champion Hector Lombard could be the right match up.
Lombard is 2-0 since moving to Welterweight. However he doesn't think that Brown is worthy of a fight against him. Taking to Twitter, Lombard tweeted:
"Never fought a former champion or a top ten guy but getting all the hype not impressed by you @IamtheImmortal (Brown's twitter address)."
Lombard makes a valid point. The seven guys Brown has fought have been fairly mediocre despite his blistering all-action style, with none of them being in the top ten when they met the 'Immortal'.
As for former champions, Lombard, is on a two-fight win streak. They have come against former Strikeforce Middleweight Champions Jake Shields and Nate Marquart, names that deserve respect despite being very much in decline.
Unfortunately, there is nobody else free for Lombard to fight in the top ten apart from Dong Hyun Kim. However with all the hype around Brown, it makes sense for The Cuban to make one of the most exciting welterweight matchups on offer for the remainder of 2014.
