Tottenham Hotspur and France number one Hugo Lloris is subject to a bid from Ligue 1 Champions Paris St Germain, according to the Metro.
Lloris, a member of the 23-man France squad for the upcoming World Cup enjoyed a season of disappointment with a much-fancied Tottenham side, who could only finish a disappointing sixth in the Premier League table after splurging over £100m on new players thanks to the sale of Gareth Bale to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
PSG, recently crowned French champions as well as being successful on both domestic fronts have pinpointed Lloris as a major transfer target, despite already having Italian international Salvatore Sirigu between the sticks. Crucially for Paris St Germain, the lure of Champions League football coupled with competing strongly for domestic honours could perhaps hold the key in swaying Lloris into moving back to his homeland and turning out for the French club.
Before his move to Tottenham, Lloris enjoyed an impressive spell at the Stade Gerland, where his abilities as a ‘sweeper-keeper’ as well as his notable shot stopping ability attracted the attention of a host of clubs across Europe, eventually culminating in a summer move to North London, with Tottenham reported to have paid £12million for the Frenchman’s services.
Despite enduring a difficult start to life at Tottenham with ex manager Andre Villas Boas’ initial refusal to drop veteran goalkeeper Brad Friedel, since that inauspicious start, Lloris has become a mainstay of the Tottenham side, as well as growing to become a firm fans' favourite, despite the clubs numerous toils both on and off the pitch.
After voicing disquiet with the efforts of his team mates, it appears Lloris could be set for the White Hart Lane exit door after two seasons at the club and on his way back to Ligue 1, where he would join fellow French international goalkeepers Steve Mandanda of Marseille and Mikeal Landreau of Bastia.
However, with Lloris apparently distancing himself from a move to the Parc Des Princes, it remains to be seen as to whether Paris St Germain manager Laurent Blanc will be able to bring the Tottenham keeper to provide competition for Sirigu to be number one at Paris St Germain.
It is claimed that Lloris himself has notified the powers-to-be at Spurs that his Champions League ambitions cannot be met at Spurs, despite the offer of a new contract from the Spurs board. Lloris’ keenness to leave Spurs could hasten a move to France and to Paris St Germain.
