Lee Westwood recovered from a slow start to card a respectable one under par and stay in contention at the BMW PGA Championships at Wentworth.

In a day blighted by heavy rain and rumbles of thunder, many of the late tee-offs struggled to get going as they were ushered off, on and then off again in quick succession.

However, after a slow first nine, which included two bogeys and no birdies, the sheet of rain slowed down the back nine sufficiently and helped Westwood recover.

With 11 holes gone, Westwood was sitting at three over par but he immediately recovered on the 12th with a birdie on the notorious 531 yard par five before adding three more birdies to stay in the red.

Westwood is due to tee of early tomorrow and, with more rain over night and calm conditions in the morning, the stage is set for the Englishman to climb the table.
