Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has turned down the opportunity to sign Dutch star Stefan De Vrij, according to The Mirror.
De Vrij, who has been valued at £6.5 million, enjoyed a fine season for Feyenoord in the 2013/14 campaign and is part of Van Gaal's Dutch squad for the up coming World Cup.
However, despite working with the defender at international level, it appears that Van Gaal doesn't want to bring him to Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old now looks set for a move to Serie A outfit Lazio after agreeing personal terms with the club. He had previously delayed the transfer, amid links with Manchester United, but the deal now looks set to be completed.
Manchester United and Van Gaal, meanwhile, are expected to turn their attentions elsewhere, as they look to improve defensively ahead of next season.
After the departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, United have only been left with Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in the centre-half position.
It remains to be seen as to which defensive stars Van Gaal looks to bring to Manchester United this summer.
