Chelsea are confident of signing Filipe Luis this summer

Chelsea are confident of signing Atletico Madrid full-back Filipe Luis, reports in the British media suggest.

This is according to The Daily Telegraph, who claim that the Blues - who finished third in the Premier League after an enthralling 2013/14 season - are confident of landing Luis along with Atletico Madrid teammate Diego Costa.

Brazilian defender Felipe has been an integral figure behind Atletico's refreshingly successful 2013/14 campaign, with Diego Simeone's side having won their first La Liga title in almost two decades and in the process broken the Barcelona/Real Madrid duopoly that had dominated Spanish football in recent years.

With the club having also progressed to the final of the Champions League, it is perhaps not surprising that so many of Atletico's top performers have been subject to transfer speculation ahead of a busy summer.

Luis will reportedly be available for approximately £16.5 million during the next transfer window, with Chelsea presumably set to be on the lookout for an experienced left-back to compensate for the expected loss of Ashley Cole.

Although Cole's departure from Stamford Bridge is not yet definite, his contract is due to expire shortly and the recent comments posted to his Twitter account would appear to suggest that the chances of him being offered the opportunity to extend his eight-year stay in West London appear slim.

Luis would be an excellent replacement for Cole, with the 28-year-old renowned for his workrate. determination and commendable endeavour.

He has often flown under the radar somewhat at the Vicente Calderon, with the likes of Chelsea loanee Thibaut Courtois, Koke, Costa and Simeone receiving most of the admiration for Atletico's stellar campaign.
