Watch: New York Rangers' Daniel Carcillo elbows referee in face

Published Add your comment

New York Rangers winger Daniel Carcillo is facing punishment from the NHL after appearing to elbow an official during his team's heated playoff game against the Montreal Canadiens last night.

The incident occurred after Cacillo's teammate Derek Stepan had been cleaned out with a late hit by Brandon Prust and the Rangers sought retribution (itself worth a watch via this link).

With Derek Dorsett busy confronting the Canadien man who had inflicted the cheap shot, Carcillo was pulled away by a linesman only to land an elbow on the official.

Carcillo was quickly ejected for his actions and is facing a lengthy suspension.

Abuse of the official can lead to a suspension of anywhere between three and 20 games depending on how the incident is reported to the league by those in charge.

The Montreal Canadiens won the game in overtime 3-2 to bring the series to 2-1 in the Rangers favor.
