Manchester United have been linked with numerous Dutch talents following the appointment of Louis van Gaal, and youngster Memphis Depay is the latest to be mentioned as a target.
According to the Daily Express, the club are prepared to bid £15 million in the hope of securing the acquisition of the player from current employers PSV Eindhoven.
Depay is an incredibly exciting player who has managed to break his way into Van Gaal's Netherlands side despite being just 20 years of age.
This summer has seen a real variety of players linked with moves to Old Trafford with Toni Kroos, Marco Reus and Edinson Cavani to name a few. However, Depay represents a very realistic option for United and has been in impressive form in the Eredivisie.
Depay is a left-sided winger with blistering pace, excellent ball-control and a rasping shot that has provided the PSV faithful with some superb goals already in his career.
The youngster has also been noted for his free-kick ability and with a style similar to that of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale; Depay can generate incredible swerve and dip in dead-ball situations.
United have always been a side built around fast wingers and exciting young talent and signing Depay would be a step towards reestablishing that model.
The left wing slot has been in urgent need of reinforcement ever since Ryan Giggs' abdication nearly a decade ago and players such as Nani, Ashley Young and Wilfried Zaha have failed to impress on a consistent level.
Depay would provide United with flair and an unpredictability that could cause defenders serious problems. There has been a huge lack of goals from United's midfield this season and, having scored 12 goals and provided a further eight assists, Depay will definitely look to address that problem.
Similarly to the way in which Arsene Wener nurtured Thierry Henry and Sir Alex Ferguson dealt with the talent of Cristiano Ronaldo, Depay has the potential to move inside into a more central role later on in his career.
There are, however, a few problems with Depay's discipline and he has often been known to have on-field bust ups with teammates as well as opponents. This should not deter United though and under the guidance of such a highly respected and disciplined figure as Van Gaal, Depay could mature into a truly world class talent.
Anything around the £15 million mark would represent good business for United and although, the Old Trafford faithful will be quite rightly expecting some big name stars, the club must ensure that they continue to progress in bringing in some of Europe's brightest youngsters.
