Thibaut Courtois could be set to break Chelsea hearts, as he won’t return to the club this summer unless he’s guaranteed the no.1 spot under Jose Mourinho, according to Spanish football expert Graham Hunter.
Speaking to talkSPORT Hunter stated that he believed a return for Courtois this summer which would see him playing second-fiddle to current first-choice Petr Cech was completely off the cards. There has been plenty of speculation surrounding whom Mourinho will elect to be his favoured ‘keeper moving forward, with some being of the belief that the Portuguese boss would try to engineer a situation wherein he had both players at Stamford Bridge.
However Hunter has completely rejected that theory, and instead thinks that Courtois will look to move to a new club if Cech is given the nod ahead of him.
“He is absolutely clear about this - he's either coming back as number one or he wants to be sold," he said.
"He does not want to do what Iker Casillas did at Real Madrid this season and play in cup competitions only. He will not accept that solution.”
The 22-year-old Belgian international is widely regarded as one of the best talents in Europe between the sticks, having impressed during his three-year loan spell at Atletico Madrid. As such Mourinho will be wary that he cannot afford to make Courtois feel unwanted, with it being clear that a number of top European sides ready to battle for his signature.
At the same time however Cech also has admirers abroad, and reports yesterday implied that he could follow in the footsteps of David Luiz in making a surprise move to Paris Saint-Germain. Either way the time is drawing close for Mourinho to make what could be on the toughest decisions of his career to date.
