Bully Ray and Ethan Carter III will go head to head at TNA’s Slammiversary pay-per-view, joining headline match MVP vs. defending World Heavyweight Champion Eric Young on the card.
Late last week, a statement on the official TNA website read: “As announced earlier through our social media channels, Bully Ray vs. Ethan Carter III has just been added to the card for Slammiversary on June 15th. This announcement comes off a crazy episode of IMPACT last week that saw Bully Ray invade Dixie Carter’s home before being knocked unconscious by EC3.”
Indeed, since EC3 came to his aunt Dixie’s rescue, saving her from Ray after he had broken into the Carter residency, complete with an army of tables, the pair have continued their feud. On the most recent edition of Impact, Dixie and Ray came face to face once again, this time in the ring, with Carter Jr. making the save before putting Bully through a table.
Ray, the two-time World Heavyweight Champion, will be looking to become the first man to defeat EC3 in a one-on-one match, with Carter yet to be pinned or forced to submit during his seven month spell with the company.
Online sources suggest that the match between Ray and Carter could also be a Texas Death Match – a wrestling style similar to the Last Man Standing match, where the only way to win is by knockout. That is, a wrestler will lose the match if they are unable to answer a ten-count after being downed, similar to the knockout ruling of a boxing match.
In a Texas Death Match, a wrestler must be pinned or forced to submit before the referee will begin the ten-count, which may happen anywhere around the ring area. The imminent return of Ray’s former on-screen girlfriend, Brooke Tessmacher, could also influence the Carter / Ray feud.
Other possible Slammiversary matches being built-up in recent weeks include Gail Kim challenging Angelina Love for the Knockouts Championship, Mr. Anderson taking on James Storm, and Willow facing Magnus.
Kim is anxious to restore pride to the Knockout’s Division, and attacked both Love and her Beautiful People partner Velvet Sky last week. Storm recently defeated Anderson in a controversial match, which saw the Cowboy spit beer into Anderson’s face. Last week, Anderson attacked Storm in a bar to gain revenge. Willow and Magnus have faced each other for the last three weeks in succession, with Magnus egged on by his old friend, and TNA newcomer, Bram. All three storylines could well be building to Slammiversary matches.
