Knockouts Champion Angelina Love retained her title, defeating Brittany by pin-fall. However, she was given a surprisingly tough match by the TNA newcomer, as her open challenge to any female wrestler without a career title win, almost backfired.
After eventually winning the match with the aid of her partner in The Beautiful People – Velvet Sky – Love was attacked by Gail Kim, who has been feuding with her for several weeks. Kim heads a list of potential challengers for Love’s Knockouts Title, with any match between the pair likely to take place at the Slammiversary pay-per-view on 15th June.
During last week’s title match, Angelina attacked Brittany during her entrance, knocking her off the top rope onto the floor. Love followed up by slamming Brittany into the apron and then rolling her into the ring.
Love struck Brittany with her boot and then a knee to the stomach, whipping the challenger into the corner and hitting with a Monkey Flip. The champion went to pick Brittany up, only to be caught out by an inside cradle for a near-fall.
A sliding dropkick was Love’s response, as once again she whipped Brittany into the corner. Angelina attempted another Monkey Flip, but this time Brittany saw it coming and was able to block the move, responding with a series of forearms. Bouncing back off the ropes, Brittany connected with a series of clotheslines and hit with a Snapmare, followed by a running back kick and a Russian leg sweep for another near-fall.
Brittany whipped Angelina into the corner and went for her traditional handspring back elbow, but Love clotheslined her in mid-air. Love climbed up top, but Brittany gets back up and tosses her off the ropes for a third pin attempt.
Seeing her partner struggling, Velvet climbed up onto the apron and once again distracted referee Brian Stiffler, just as Brittany rolled up Angelina. A frustrated Brittany knocked Velvet off the apron and back to the floor, but proceeded to walk into the Botox Injection from Love, who got the win as a result.
The Beautiful People then attacked with their traditional beat-down tactics, scribbling lipstick onto the face of Brittany and putting a paper bag over her head. Kim came to the ring for the save, but was attacked as she slid into the ring.
Having recovered, Kim hit a hangwoman’s neckbreaker on Velvet and a clothesline on Angelina. She continued to attack Love until Velvet made the save, dragging her partner out of the ring to safety.
Kim has spoken in recent weeks of wanting to restore the reputation of the Knockout’s division, the division she helped build when she first arrived in TNA. She appears to be keeping good to her word, and is quickly rebuilding her own image after her previous heel turn and failed partnership with Lei’d Tapa.
