A Liverpool fan got an unexpected response following what he assumed would be a harmless tweet about the club’s midfielder Lucas Leiva, with the Brazilian sending a private message abusing his mother.

Lucas could leave Anfield this summer as Brendan Rodgers looks to make room for reinforcements, and Inter Milan have been credited with interest in the player. With frequent speculation regarding a proposed move to the San Siro, Reds supporter Chris Dickinson decided to compose a cheeky tweet about the 27-year-old.

Tweeting under the handle @SuperSubLFC, Dickinson posted: “#LFC can also now announce the sale of @LucasLeiva87 to @Inter for £3 and a bag of midget gems.”

The worst Dickinson could have expected from the tweet was some light-hearted banter from fellow Liverpool supporters, but he must have realised something when up when he received to a notification to confirm he was being followed by Lucas himself.

What followed was even more strange, as a clearly incensed Lucas decided to send a direct message in response. And, while Dickinson had been reasonably cheeky with his initial post, the Liverpool midfielder went straight for the jugular with his reply.

It simply read: “With your mum you prick.”

Ouch! Cue some abuse from a section of Liverpool fans who have sided with Lucas but, so far, Dickinson has been able to take the barbs in relatively good spirit.
