La Liga giants FC Barcelona are set offer €20million-plus-Dani Alves for talented Brazilian centre-back Marquinhos, according to BeINSports.
Barcelona are in for a busy summer with a massive overhauling of the squad to take place with names like Alves, Cesc Fabregas, Alexis Sanchez to leave Camp Nou.
The Catalan giants are in need of a replacement for club veteran, Carles Puyol who called time on his Barcelona career early last month, while PSG have to sell players from their current squad in order to comply with UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations.
Barcelona value Alves at €15million and so the total bid for Marquinhos will amount to around €35million, but Alves’s representatives have denied any talks being held between the player and the club for a possible transfer to the French capital.
Experts believe because of Barcelona’s weak defence the club suffered a season of setbacks in 2013-14, losing the La Liga title to Atletico Madrid, ousted from the Champions League in the quarter-finals by Atletico Madrid and beaten by Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final.
With David Luiz joining PSG from 2014/15 for £40million, Marquinhos admitted that his agent will talk with the club regarding his future at Parc des Princes.
The 20-year-old was seen as a long term investment when transferred from Roma for a massive €30million last year, but was unable to dislodge fellow Brazilian Alex from the starting line-up alongside Thiago Silva.
Marquinhos feels flattered by the interest shown by Barcelona and admitted that he must be performing well, but remains committed to PSG and is relishing the competition for places in defence.
However, Manchester United too are interested in the Brazilian who are in the need of a defender after Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand ended their Manchester United career this season.
Marquinhos made 29 appearances in all competitions for PSG. His current contract runs until June 2018 but he is keeping his options open and still has time on his side to improve and compete at the highest level for years to come.
