Johnny Manziel started his career in professional football as third-string quarterback with the Cleveland Browns, behind Brian Hoyer and Tyler Thigpen in the pecking order under Mike Pettine.

Well that plan hasn't lasted long. The Browns have apparently already moved up Johnny Football from third to second, leap frogging the former Coastal Carolina man Thigpen according to USA Today's NFL writer Jim Corbett.

Manziel is with the Browns today at their OTA's and is taking charge of the 1st string line up in 11 vs 11 match-ups while Thigpen is QB'ing the seconds while Brian Hoyer works out in 7 vs 7's.

That trip to Las Vegas which saw Manziel partying has obviously not hurt himself with the coaches in the slightest. There was a massive overreaction on both conventional media and social media to videos of Manziel with Rob Gronkowski at a pool party at the weekend.

JFF was never going to go into the season as the number 3 man on the roster, it was more likely a tactic from the coaches to make him realise just how hard he will have to work in order to become the starter.

Manziel may have been a first round draft pick but he will have to battle with Brian Hoyer to run out on week 1 as main play caller. The Browns staff rate Hoyer highly and are prepared to give him an extended chance in training to prove himself.
