Triple H, in his role as WWE's Executive Vice President, Talent, Live Events & Creative, spoke to the media via a conference call Wednesday and had an update regarding the organization's pursuit of former NFL player Shawne Merriman.

Merriman officially retired from the NFL in March of 2013 after eight years in the league playing for both the San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills, and he has been linked to a move into the ring in recent times.

HHH spoke of the WWE's interest in the man known as 'Lights Out', stating that the organization would love to have Merriman in their ranks.

The WWE legends also confirmed that the company continues to be in talks with the former football player as they look to hash out a deal.

Merriman was a three-time Pro-Bowler after being picked in the first round of the 2005 draft but is known to be a huge WWE fan, even appearing as a pre-show analyst at WrestleMania XXX back in April.

It had been thought that the former Charger was set to join the WWE in the weeks following the event but reports that he had signed an official deal proved premature.

This latest insight from one of the key men in the WWE hierarchy however seems to suggest that Shawne Merriman's move to the organization may not be too far away.
