WWE rolls into Chicago on Sunday as they present the first of two pay-per-views in June, Payback.
This is the first WWE pay-per-view in years where the WWE world title hasn't been on the line in the main event, but it seems The Shield v Evolution will be a worthy substitution.
El Torito vs Hornswoggle (Hair v Mask)
The kick off show sees the first Hair vs mask match in WWE in many years as El Torito faces off against Hornswoggle. This is no more than a bit of comedy that has been added to the card to start it off in a light hearted way. I think regardless of who wins the feud will continue and we will have a lot more Torito v 3MB matches.
GMS wrestling writer Raza Kavi thinks: El Torito will defeat Hornswoggle, their Extreme Rules match was pretty good surprisingly but I don’t think this will match up to it, I just think it’s more likely that Hornswoggle cuts his hair again like he did when he first appeared than El Torito losing his mask which is an important part of the whole Los Matadores gimmick.
Prediction: El Torito
Paige vs Alicia Fox (Divas Championship)
Paige faces the only woman to have defeated her in her short stint on the WWE main roster, Alicia Fox, who herself has been on a streak of her own as of late.
Alicia has risen to the top of the divas division over the last few months as her "crazy" gimmick has gained a different sort of fan reaction for the former divas champion.
This to me if just the filler match because WWE were hoping AJ Lee would have been back by now to claim her rematch, but now AJ is instead set to be back in a month or so, I think Paige will retain her title to set up the clash with AJ.
Raza: I think Paige will defeat Alicia Fox, Alicia Fox has been relevant once more and I was taken back by how well she can actually work, saying that I’m not intrigued by this match and I see no reason as to why Paige will lose this so quickly after capturing the gold, she is still learning and it is obvious that this match is headed towards a potential AJ Lee vs. Paige match.
Rusev v Big E
The newly named Rusev faces his biggest test to date on Sunday as he takes on former Intercontinental Champion Big E. Rusev has only been in squash matches lately and now this will prove to be a big test for him, a test I think he will over come because WWE seems to have much bigger plans for him.
I think Rusev will defeat Big E. – I just don’t think they’ll have Big E come into this place where Rusev is destroying everyone, out of nowhere and defeat him, a victory over Big E will make Rusev look huge, that’s what they’re going for and it sets it up nicely for a match down the line, or even a feud. If Big E. wins, then basically Rusev has lost and that’s it, it makes him look beatable. Rusev has more to lose here so Rusev will crush and defeat Big E.
Bad News Barrett v Rob Van Dam ( Intercontinental Championship)
Everyone loves the "Bad News" gimmick and I think it will continue to be a hit for a long time, part of me would love for Rob to pick up a WWE championship again to prove that he isn't past it but for me Bad News Barrett will walk out of this with his title.
Barrett has shown signs of ring improvement and charisma and I think he will continue to rise in WWE over the next few months.
Prediction: Bad News Barrett
Raza: I think Bad News Barrett will defeat RVD, the fans love him, Vince loves him, he has momentum after a solid European tour and RVD – who knows how long he will be around, so I think Barrett will retain this and look a stronger champion.
Prediction: Bad News Barrett
Sheamus v Cesaro ( United States Championship)
Sheamus was lucky to win the title in that battle royal a few weeks ago and since WWE haven't done a lot for him, I feel like his title reign was just a way for him to return home wearing gold. So I think Cesaro will win this, he needs to pick up the silverware to continue this rivalry and look dominant under Paul Heyman so I have a feeling we could be crowning a new champion on Sunday.
Raza: This is a tough one, Cesaro needs a win against Sheamus to look a genuine threat but a loss won’t do him much harm either. Sheamus has recently captured the United States Championship and this feud has been going on for two weeks or so, I have a feeling they will continue this feud after Payback so I am going to say Sheamus walks out with the strap.
John Cena v Bray Wyatt ( Last Man Standing)
This is a hard match to predict, with Erick Rowan and Luke Harper not scheduled for a match, you have to believe they will involve themselves in this and a last man standing match is no dq, so expect The Usos and the rest of the Wyatt Family to make their presence known, but that being said, I think Bray will get the win after a distraction from his family will allow him to knock Cena out for the ten count.
Prediction: Bray Wyatt
Raza: Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena – who will be last man standing. This is one of those gimmick matches where Cena never gives up and as much as I want Bray Wyatt to win, I don't think the WWE will have Cena lose again. The thing is, Bray Wyatt losing will do him no harm, the thing with him is that he keeps coming back and makes you believe things you don't want to, and they seem true. With John Cena he's been made to look very weak here, and hasn't been in a dominating position as much as we expected, saying that I believe John Cena will win this but the feud itself will continue.
Evolution v The Shield ( No Holds Barred Elimination Match)
It going to be a war. There is no two ways about it, this will end this rivalry and only one them will make it out. I think Batista leaving after Sunday means Evolution will be on the losing end, The Shield will prove their dominance but I think it will come down to Roman Reigns. Triple H said he was going to take his time with him to teach him a lesson and I think it will turn into a three-on-one handicap match and just when were were about to count Roman out, he will rise and take out all three members to stand tall.
Prediction: The Shield
Raza: This is another tough match to call, because it could really go either way. We saw a fantastic match between the two at Extreme Rules and now with the no holds barred stipulation I hope we see an even better match. I believe Evolution will lose this match again, only because I think a loss makes more sense for a frustrated Batista to leave - and promote his film - and a win for The Shield makes them look even stronger. I think Rollins and Ambrose will be the first two to be eliminated, and that leaves Roman Reigns to showcase his talent and make him look even stronger, he will clean up on Evolution, The Shield will win.
Prediction: The Shield
Will Daniel Bryan surrender the title?
My hope was that he would and someone like Brock Lesnar or Chris Jericho would return and take it on but now it seems Bryan will keep the title and Money in the Bank will set up a number one contenders match which Kane will probably win to face Bryan in the Buried Alive match that was scheduled for Payback.
Raza: What I believe will happen is that Bryan will come very close to giving up the gold. However Brie will tell him not to surrender it. Therefore Bryan will still be WWE World Heavyweight Champion and Brie will 'get fired.'
This is one of the lightest cards WWE have allowed for a pay-per-view in a long time and the only hope is that the matches announced do the event justice and the fans don't ruin the matches with CM Punk chants in his home-town.
