Manchester United fans warned they could hate Louis van Gaal

Manchester United fans have been warned by former player Lee Sharpe that they could hate new manager Louis van Gaal.

As reported by The Sun, Sharpe has insisted that the Dutch coach - who was recently appointed the club's new manager on a three-year deal - is "a bit like marmite", and United fans will either love him or hate him.

Sharpe has revealed, however, that he expects Van Gaal to get the best out of the current crop of Manchester United stars.

Speaking to SunSport, Sharpe said: “From the reputation he has, Van Gaal’s a bit of a Marmite man. You either love him or hate him.

“He doesn’t suffer fools and I don’t think he’ll hold his tongue if he needs to say something.

“I think he’ll get the best out of every player and will encourage others to come in and play for the club.

“We know he likes to bring players through the youth system, so he definitely fits the bill for Manchester United.

“He’s properly qualified having taken other big clubs to honours and I think he’s going to be great.”

Manchester United fans will certainly be hoping that Van Gaal enjoys a successful campaign, as the club look to get back to their best in 2014/15.

After a nightmare seventh placed finish under David Moyes and then Ryan Giggs last season, the Red Devils will be looking to reclaim their place amongst Europe's elite sides once again.

It looks set to be a busy summer for all involved at Manchester United, as the club embark on a new era.
