Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a bid for Roma striker Mattia Destro according to reports. The Italian forward is believed to be Mauricio Pochettino's first target after becoming new head coach of Tottenham Hotspur.

Destro has been earmarked as the striker to bolster Spurs' front line which struggled to score many goals last season.

Destro is only 23 and Pochettino is keen on signing younger players. The Roma striker has just been called up to the Italy squad for the World Cup so a deal may have to be done before to tournament as Destro's price may go up if he puts in a good performance.

Spurs are preparing a £14 million pound bid despite Destro's agent coming out and claiming the striker will stay at Roma for the foreseeable future.

The London club are hoping that Sporting Director Franco Baldini can use his connections to previous club Roma and conclude a deal, much like last summer's capture of record signing Erik Lamela.

Destro is highly rated and one of the most sought young strikers around. He has progressively been getting better at Roma each season.

Last season the Italian striker netted 17 goals and provided one assist for the Italian side. Destro also played with Erik Lamela, during his time at Roma, who has yet to prove his worth at Tottenham.

Destro is a clinical striker, who is quick and strong and can also play many positions. He is best suited to a 4-3-3. He can play left or right wing.

Mattia Destro is an exciting prospect and with Mauricio Pochettino in charge the Italian striker can fulfill his potential and fire Spurs into the Champions League.
