Manchester United are close to securing a deal for Dnipro star Yevhen Konoplyanka, despite the fact that they’ve had various set-backs in the last week, according to a club insider.
TalkSPORT reports that a Dnipro source has confirmed that the Ukrainian playmaker is well within United’s grasp, and throws its weight behind the idea that he could become Louis van Gaal’s first signing as Old Trafford boss for as little as £12million. Only last week was it claimed that the 24-year-old would reject a move to United due to the fact that they’re not competing in next season’s Champions League, and it appeared that Liverpool had seized the initiative in the race.
However, according to information gathered by talkSPORT, the situation couldn’t be anymore different. A club insider said: “Officially, there’s a specific amount for which we don’t have the right to not release Konoplyanka.
"If Man United offer favourable conditions and agree terms with Konoplyanka, then no one can do anything."
The news will likely be welcomed by Red Devils fans, who have had to endure a frustrating time of late. Aside from their dismal campaign last term they’ve also been publicly rejected by a number of transfer targets for this summer, including Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller, and so any positive updates on Konoplyanka’s position will come as a relief.
On top of that there’s the fact that they stand to beat Liverpool to one of the top names on Brendan Rodgers’ wish-list for the upcoming window. The Reds came close to sealing a deal for the tricky winger in January, but were ultimately left disappointed as the deadline forced the agreement off.
