Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers seems intent on improving his squad ahead of the 2014/15 campaign. It appears that Southampton striker Rickie Lambert is set to complete a move to Anfield in the coming days, with the club readying a Champions League challenge.
With the Reds back in the big time, they will be desperate to prove their credentials on the European stage once again. However, the Reds are in need of experience as they go in search of glory.
And two players that seem to be available this summer are Chelsea duo Petr Cech and Ashley Cole. Both stars - who are entering the twilight years of their careers - have enjoyed fine stints at Chelsea, but could now be on their way out of the club as Jose Mourinho looks to develop his team.
Reports have suggested that Chelsea have placed Cech on the transfer list, whilst Cole has still not been offered a new deal by the club. They may not be wanted at Chelsea, but many clubs would love to have them.
Surely then Liverpool will swoop for the pair. The Reds - going forward - were a joy to watch last season, however they were incredibly vulnerable at the back.
Cech and Cole wouldn't just bring experience, but they would add class and quality to Liverpool's side. Former Arsenal man Cole may have struggled for opportunities last season, however he still managed to proved his worth when given the chance.
The full-back can still get up and down the pitch with ease and could easily play in the top flight for another two years yet. Cech, meanwhile, can play at the top for another five or six years.
Of course Liverpool only signed Simon Mignolet last summer, however the Belgian shot-stopper hasn't done enough to impress everyone on Merseyside. And there's no doubt that Cech represents a step up in quality between the sticks.
The duo could play a key role in both Liverpool's challenge for the Premier League title and their quest to claim a sixth Champions League trophy next season.
Both Chelsea stars would arrive at Anfield hungry, and desperate to prove Mourinho wrong. They are Premier League and Champions League winners, and between them could help the Reds reach their goal under Rodgers.
It's crucial that Rodgers sorts out his defence for next season, or his side could be found out. Premier League teams will be targeting his team in the next campaign, and Liverpool will have to take their game up another level. They will certainly have to be better at the back, and Cole and Cech will improve them immensely.
