Fernando Torres this week said that his move to Chelsea ‘destroyed’ Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard but it seems like it also had negative ramifications on his own career.
The Spaniard’s career seems to have curtailed on a downwards spiral ever since he took the decision to leave Liverpool for Chelsea in 2011.
Torres, who was one of the best strikers in world football during his time at Anfield, could be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge this summer and is currently battling to be included in Vicente del Bosque’s final 23-man squad to travel to Brazil.
And Torres’ latest horror miss will not exactly do him any favours. The 30-year-old spooned a perfect opportunity to grab his second goal of the night - after he opened the scoring by dispatching a penalty - but hit what looked to be an attempt to chip the Bolivian goalkeeper into the stands.
Torres, who was making his first appearance for La Roja in 11 months, will find out if he is to be included in Spain’s World Cup squad later today.
