Real Madrid are ready to listen to offers for young defender Raphael Varane and Chelsea are the first club in line to make a move for the talented centre-back.
Varane is being viewed as the perfect replacement for David Luiz who has moved from London to Paris and will join his new club,Paris Saint-Germain after the World Cup in Brazil.
With £50million inclusive of all add-ons in the Luiz deal,The Blues will spend the amount wisely ,bringing in some quality talents before the 2014-15 season commences in August.
Jose Mourinho is a big admirer of the French defender and hailed him as “the best young defender in the world” earlier this year, according to Metro.
However, the 21-year-old has struggled to feature regularly in the first-team line-up under Carlo Ancelotti with Pepe and Sergio Ramos ahead in the pecking order, but also had a season plagued with a series of knee injuries.
Varane had a good game in UEFA Champions League final against Atletico Madrid where he started alongside Ramos at the heart of defence. Mourinho was present at Estadio do Dragao in Lisbon to watch Varane in action, and the Special One was reportedly impressed with the performance of the Frenchman.
Chelsea have 19-year-old,Kurt Zouma arriving from Ligue 1 side,St.Etienne this summer, but are in the market to scout for one more defender signing.
Varane was one the first signings of Mourinho during his time at Real Madrid in 2011 when the Galacticos paid €10 million to Ligue 1 side, Lens, to lure him to the Spanish capital.
The young Frenchman is said to be Jose Mourinho’s first-choice with Eliaquim Mangala and Mehndi Benatia as back-up options if the deal falls through with Real Madrid, according to Mirror.
Reportedly, the transfer fee for Varane is said to be around £25 million and Mourinho will table a bid before the World Cup,where Varane has been named in Didier Deschamps' 23-man France squad.
