WWE Payback came to us live from Chicago, Illinois and the kick off show boasted the first Hair vs Mask match in years.

El Torito vs Hornswoggle (Hair vs Mask)

Torito and Hornswoggle were joined by their usual stables of 3MB and Los Matadores for the match, as many predicted it didn’t live up to the WeeLC match from Extreme Rules and after the Matadores and 3MB involved themselves in the match, Hornswoggle thought he has the win when he pulled off one of El Torito’s masks but he hadn’t and Torito hit a springboard cross-body for the three count and Hornswoggle was forced to have his head shaved.

The main pay-per-view kicked off with Sheamus defending his title against Cesaro, as the CM Punk chants began early. Paul Heyman actually acknowledged the chants and told the crowd CM Punk wasn’t there because he was busy watching the Blackhawks.

Sheamus vs Cesaro (United States Championship)

Sheamus came out of the blocks fighting and looked like he was trying to end the match quickly but Cesaro fought back with his usual arsenal of upper-cuts. Sheamus then hit the ten beats of the Bourin twice before Cesaro upper-cutted Sheamus out of the ring.
Cesaro hit his suplex from the apron for the first near fall of the match before Sheamus got the Irish Curse backbreaker for a two-count of his own.

Sheamus then clubbed to the tope rope but Cesaro countered with a flying upper-cut before Cesaro went for the Neutralizer but Sheamus countered into White Noise for another near fall.

Sheamus locked in the Clover Leaf but Cesaro crawled to the bottom rope and slammed Sheamus to the mat for a two count. The Cesaro Swing managed 18 rotations but Sheamus rolled Cesaro up as he went for the Neutralizer again.

Curtis Axel and Ryback v Cody Rhodes and Goldust

After an exclusive altercation backstage on WWE.com, this match up was made as the two tag teams collided. Ryback and Axel dominated in the opening stages with Goldust tagging in and being slammed by Ryback.

Goldust tried to roll Ryback into a small package but the big man kicked out at two. Cody got the tag and cleared the ring and delivered a moon-sault to both Ryback and Axel and went for the Disaster Kick on Ryback but he power-bombed him into his brother and hit the Meat Hook before Goldust saved the match up.

Cody hit Cross Rhodes on Ryback before Axel saved the match up and Cody again went for the Disaster kick but he countered into Shell Shock for the win.

After the match Goldust tried to talk to Cody but he didn’t want to hear it and instead picked up a microphone and told him that he needed a better tag team partner than him.

Rusev v Big E

Before the match Lana again dedicated the match to Vladimir Putin, before the Bulgarian Brute made his way to the ring with a Russian flag and Big E came out with a United States flag.

Rusev took it to Big E in the opening exchanges but Big E gave the Brute a match, and the two knocked each other off the apron to the floor. Lana then called for the ending and Rusev locked in the Accolade for the submission win.

BACKSTAGE: Daniel and Brie were shown talking backstage.

Kofi Kingston vs Bo Dallas

Bo Dallas made his WWE pay-per-view debut under his new gimmick and talked to the crowd about inspiration but Kane interrupted and headed out to the ring, Kofi went for Kane and was swatted like a fly out of the ring before throwing him back in and delivered a choke-slam and a tombstone pile-driver.

Bo Dallas grabbed a mic after the match and told Kofi he would be back on his feet and better than ever in no time if he Bolieved.

Rob Van Dam vs Bad News Barrett (Intercontinental Championship)

Before the match Bad News talked about how RVD wouldn’t be leaving as champion, because the BullHammer is going to send RVD on a permanent summer vacation.
Barrett seemed to get the better of the opening stages until he was sent to the outside then bounced off the barricade and thrown over it before RVD jumped of the apron and onto him.

RVD went for a head-scissor takedown but Barrett countered with a kick to the mid-section followed by a kick to the face which sent Rob out of the ring and into the barricade.
Barrett hit a knee to the mid-section on the top rope for the first near fall of the match before RVD hit a spinning heel kick to the face of Barrett. Rob then hit Rolling Thunder and went for the five-star-frog-splash but Barrett moved and went for the Bull Hammer but RVD countered into the scissor pin.

Barrett went to punch RVD and missed and punched the ring-post before RVD hit a DDT for a near fall, Rob hit the split-legged moon-sault but Barrett put his knees up and hit the Bull Hammer for the win.

Stephanie made her way to the room ready for Daniel Bryan to surrender his World Heavyweight Championship, Daniel then made his way to the ring accompanied by Brie.

Stephanie talked about their future kids and what they would think of them looking back on this moment, Daniel said he thought this was an opportunity for her to change the WWE Universe’s mind and show that she can do the right thing. He talked about how hard he fought for the title but the CM Punk chants began and Stephanie said the Universe wanted Daniel to quit just like CM Punk.

Daniel then called Stephanie self-centred and Brie called her a bitch before Stephanie asked for the title because WWE needs a fighting champion. Daniel was going to hand the titles over but Brie stopped him and said that Stephanie doesn’t control him.

Brie said Steph can’t fire her because she quits and then she slapped her. Stephanie then left the ring and ran to the back whilst Daniel and Brie celebrated together for perhaps the final time.

John Cena vs Bray Wyatt (Last man standing)

Cena was surrounded in the opening stages and The Usos came out to even the odds. Bray climbed back in the ring and the match finally got underway with Bray gaining the upper-hand few various slaps and punches.

Cena fought back with the five knuckle shuffle and went for the AA but Bray countered and knocked him down. Bray went for Sister Abigail but Cena countered and instead was hit with a flying clothesline.

Cena hit the leg drop from the top rope off the back of Bray’s head before Bray nailed him with Sister Abigail and Cena hit Bray with the AA. Bray found a chair and hit Cena over the back with it twice and Cena rolled out of the ring.

Bray went for the chair shot again but Cena ducked and took the chair before he hit Bray in the mid-section and over the back with it. Cena found a table under the ring and went for the AA to Bray but he countered and slapped Cena through the table himself.

Bray took the steel steps into the ring and bounced them off the head of Cena before he stood on the steps conducting the fans as they sang and kicked Cena’s head off the steel.

Cena then took the steel steps and ran at Bray with them and he rolled out of the ring, Cena then threw the steps from the ring into Bray on the outside. Cena went for the power-bomb onto the steps but Bray countered into a back body drop before Bray ran and jumped on top of him.

Cena hit the AA on the outside and slid back into the ring whilst the ref counted, Harper and Rowan came into the ring and attacked Cena and picked Bray up so he could beat the count.

The Usos came back outside and tried to help but Jimmy was bounced off a table and Jey was taken out of the outside. Jey then took Rowan out on the outside as he ran him through a table whilst Jimmy and Harper went through two tables off the top rope. Bray then ran and hit the cross-body on Cena through the barricade for a count of six.

The fight then made its way out into the crowd and ended up near the sound equipment and Cena AA’d Bray into a box and dropped another box on top so Bray couldn’t climb out and the referee counted to ten.

Paige vs Alicia Fox (Divas Championship)

Paige got the upper hand early on but Alicia rolled to the outside and looked like she was crying which Paige seemed to fall for and Alicia took advantage. Alicia interacted with the fans again and Paige then drove her into the barricade.

Alicia then returned the favour and threw Paige into the barricade for a near fall before locking in various submission moves to no avail. Alicia then threw Paige out of the ring and back in and Paige fought back with clotheslines and pulled Alicia foot first from the top rope.

Paige then locked in the scorpion cross lock for the win.

After the match Alicia went crazy again and shouted at the audience before running over actively to the back.

Ambrose got the tag and was hit with a spinebuster by Batista before Roman and Triple H stood toe to toe. Roman got the better of their exchanges before Seth tagged in and hit the “three amigos” on Triple H.

Ambrose was dragged out of the ring and sent into the barricade by Batista before he was put on the apron and kicked. Triple H got the tag and Ambrose hit him with his thunderous clothesline.

Roman hit the superman punch on Batista and almost eliminated him but Randy made the save. Dean was bounced off the steel post, whilst Seth and Triple H took the fight into the audience once more.

Triple H hit Seth with what looks like a chair and he stayed down whilst Roman Reigns was sent into the steel steps and triple power-bombed through the table.
Evolution mocked The Shield with their pose and Dean took all three men out off the announce table whilst Seth took Batista and Triple H out with a dive.

Triple H then hit both Seth and Dean with a steel chair before he delivered a pedigree to Seth onto the chair. Back in the ring Batista hit Roman with a spine-buster before he was bounced off the steel steps and had his vest taken off before they caned him with kendo sticks.
