Liverpool are in an odd place this summer. Having come close to achieving what many thought to be impossible by holding first place in the Premier League for an extended period of time before losing the title, Brendan Rodgers' boys will be looking to bounce back come August.

However, Liverpool are in an odd place with a captain close to retirement, a key player being heavily relied upon and a squad primarily filled with inexperienced players. As a result, the coming season may not see as much success as the one prior.

Steven Gerrard's retirement has been looming over the heads of Liverpool for around two years as such an instrumental player's decision can greatly impact the club.

However, Gerrard looks to be a strong player still, playing one of his best seasons in years during the 2013-14 campaign. Gerrard's statistics are impressive, yet his age still brings worry to fans at Anfield.

Additionally, there is an extremely large amount of responsibility placed upon Luis Suarez, a player who has been the centre of consistent controversy. Suarez played a vital role in the Liverpool squad last season, scoring the most goals in the league and ultimately lifting the team to new heights.

However, it has to be concerning for Liverpool fans to consider exactly how much pressure and responsibility their number seven can take, especially with Gerrard not too far away from retirement.

Finally, it has to be considered that Liverpool's current squad is composed primarily of young players - Jordan Henderson, Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling to name a few.

However, these players have shown tremendous skill, composure and ability over the past few seasons and certainly promise a strong future for the Merseyside club.

Overall, Liverpool are in luck as they are under the supervision of Brendan Rodgers - a man that has ushered a new era of prosperity to Anfield and certainly impressed fans and professionals alike.

Liverpool will look to their manager to bear responsibility and maintain the club's form in the coming years.
