The speculation surrounding Francesc Fabregas’ potential move back to the Premier League has hit overdrive in the last two days, but it now looks as though the former Arsenal captain is set to join Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.

Manchester United and Manchester City have both lodged formal offers, but reports in Spain claim that the 27-year-old has agreed terms with the Blues, and negotiations are close to being finalised.

United fans shouldn’t be too disheartened however, as it’s been revealed that new boss Louis van Gaal snubbed another Premier League side in order to take the Old Trafford job. Rumours suggested that the Dutchman had almost joined Tottenham this summer, but the man himself has gone one better and claimed that he was very close to signing on the dotted line at White Hart Lane, only to reject them at the last minute in favour of the Red Devils.

Meanwhile Arsenal remain in with a shot of landing ex-Manchester City bad boy Mario Balotelli in the coming weeks, as Arsene Wenger continues his hunt for a striker. The Italian forward is unsettled at AC Milan, and San Siro chiefs have confirmed his situation is precarious. The Gunners may face competition from Chelsea for his signature, but the promise of regular game-time may convince the 23-year-old to opt for north London.
