Tottenham Hotspur are chasing a number of strikers this summer. They have been linked with Jay Rodriguez, Romelu Lukaku and Jackson Martinez but there is another possible option for Spurs. Edinson Cavani is said to be unhappy at Paris Saint Germain and should be considered.
The Uruguayan has been moved over to the right wing to accommodate both himself and Ibrahimovic in the PSG team. Cavani wants to play in the middle which he was promised when he moved to the French club.
Despite playing out of his preferred position, Cavani scored 25 goals in 43 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions. The Uruguayan is more prolific in his best position as a central striker.
The £52 million man has been linked with a Premier League move this summer with Chelsea and Manchester United apparently interested. However, Chelsea have agreed a deal for Diego Costa, and the Red Devils have other priorities.
This could pave the way for Spurs to make an audacious bid. Unlike Manchester United, Spurs can also offer European football in the shape of the Europa League which may tempt the Uruguayan.
With Spurs' strikers also misfiring last year, Cavani would be almost guaranteed a first team start. Manchester United already have Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Wellbeck fighting for a starting berth, all three strikers are believed to be in new manager Louis Van Gaal's long term plans.
Cavani has all the attributes to be a success in the Premier League. He is tall, powerful, strong and a commanding presence up front and most importantly a clinical finisher
Spurs new head coach Mauricio Pochettino is expected to implement high pressing attacking football at the club. Cavani could potentially be a good target man for his system. With his high work rate and pace on the counterattack he could easily slot in.
Spurs have a long standing interest in Cavani and have been tracking him since his Palermo days. The London club were linked with Cavani during his most successful time in his career at Napoli.
The Uruguay striker has a vast array of European and Champions League experience and won Ligue 1 with PSG last season.
If Tottenham Hotspur sign Edinson Cavani it would be a real coup. The London club should consider the Uruguayan as a viable option, with his ability well suited to the Premier League and new head coach Pochettino's style of play.
