Luol Deng is almost certainly the best English basketball player of all time, and the two-time NBA All-Star spent time today to wish his compatriot Wayne Rooney and the rest of the England team good luck when they cross the Atlantic and travel to the World Cup in Brazil.
The Cleveland Cavaliers man is a big football fan - supporting Arsenal at club level - and is getting behind his National Team and hasn't forgotten his London roots since moving to the States 15 years ago in order to further his basketball development and career.
The 29-year old played college ball at the basketball powerhouse Duke under the great Coach Mike Krzyzewski before being drafted with the 7th overall pick by the Phoenix Suns, but was traded to the Chicago Bulls in 2004 where he had enjoyed a stellar career before joining the Cleveland Cavaliers this year.
Deng was born in South Sudan before emigrating to England at a young age. He grew up in Brixton, South London and was talented at both basketball and football, being invited to join the England Under-15's side.
That love of the beautiful game is obviously still there as he will be cheering Rooney and the Three Lions on as they attempt to bring home the World Cup trophy. Wayne and co. have a tough time in that task, but can rely on the support of millions in England and at least one much taller individual in the States for support in Brazil.
