Coming off his big first round submission victory over Mark Munoz, Gegard Mousasi is wasting no time in wanting to get back inside the Octagon.
The former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion moved to 2-1 within the UFC ranks with his win against Munoz badly needed. With such an impressive victory, the Armenian is now looking for a top fighter and named Luke Rockhold and Tim Kennedy as the two he would like to face. Speaking at the Post Fight Press Conference, he said:
“I think (I’m ranked) around 7 to 5, maybe. I’m not interested in them at all, but I think (because) I get a win, I’m going to get a winner (as my next opponent).
"Kennedy or Rockhold, anyone who is coming off of a win who is maybe a contender. So that is why I think I will get one of those guys, but I don’t know. I’m not challenging anyone. I would definitely love to fight in Japan. The Japanese crowd is well educated and I just like Japan. They already have the headline, so, co-main event would be great for me.”
Both Kennedy and Rockhold would be a very good fight for Mousasi if he is looking to earn himself a title shot. They are both solid top ten fighters who have superb skill sets.
Former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Rockhold was last seen at UFC 172, were he impressively defeated Tim Boetsch via kimura in the very first round.
As for Kennedy, he marked his most impressive victory in his MMA career when he impressively defeated Michael Bisping by unanimous decision at the TUF: Nations Finale.
