In what could be the most sensational transfer of recent years if they can pull it off, Manchester United are reported to have entered the race to sign Luis Suarez, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.
Louis van Gaal has supposedly been given a £200million war chest to spend and Suarez has reportedly joined Kevin Strootman at the top of his list. Sport reports that Van Gaal is willing to pay up to £80 million in order to snare Suarez. The Uruguayan would make a lethal addition to an already potent strike force with includes Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Robin van Persie.
Although the transfer seems unlikely to happen at best, the game is now about the money and Suarez's main loyalties lie with his bank balance, which would look considerably more handsome should he take his cut of the transfer fee and dramatically increased wages.
If nothing else, it would be interesting to see how Patrice Evra would react to the move. However, it is probably just the Catalan newspaper trying to agitate Real Madrid, of whom Luis Suarez is a long-term transfer target.
