Red Bull Salzburg star Jonathan Soriano, the top scorer in the Europa League last season, has been linked with a transfer to Newcastle, with his goal-getting ability making him an attractive potential acquisition for Alan Pardew.

According to the Austrian Times owner Mike Ashley is extremely keen to secure a deal for the up and coming starlet since he is likely to be offered for a bargain price.

Securing a striker is a necessity for the club since the release of Shola Ameobi, who had played his entire career with Newcastle, and Soriano is one of many names linked with the club.

Red Bull Salzburg paid only £300,000 to Barcelona B for the striker, although Newcastle can expect to pay a significantly higher fee if they are able to bring the player to St James' Park.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle decided to pursue a move for Soriano, with the club also having been credited with interest in bringing Loic Remy to the club on a permanent deal.
