With just over nine days left before the World Cup, all the teams are gearing up for what's going to be a wonderful event this summer in Brazil. One of the teams to watch out for will be England, the last time they won the World Cup was in 1966 and ever since then they have not been performing as people would expect of them. However, this year with the squad they have one would expect them to reach the semifinals.
England don't have the best squad this World Cup, but they don't have the worst either. This year Roy Hodgson has selected a squad which has a mix of youth and experience. The main concern for England will be their defence .
They have really good and experienced defenders, but none of them are so established on the international front. Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka and Baines will probably be the back four, and they will have to be at their best for England to have a successful World Cup.
This will also be the last World Cup for Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard. Both these players will be the key for England at the centre of the field, and they would want to sign off with a good campaign. England's midfield has a lot of young players this time, and all of them are an amazing talent to have.
With the likes of Oxlade-Chamberlin, Wilshere, Barkley, Lallana, Henderson, Milner and Sterling one can say England definitely have a lot of fire power in their arsenal. All these players might not have a lot of international experience as compared to players from other teams, but they are young and talented and eager to prove themselves on the biggest stage.
England will be highly reliant on Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge up front for scoring goals. Sturridge had an excellent season with Liverpool scoring 21 goals in 29 appearances. Rooney too had a decent season with United scoring 17 goals in 29 appearances.
England face Italy in their first match in the World Cup and they need to get something out of that game to show the world that they indeed are a team to worry about. The last three World Cups England just managed to get to the quarter finals and the round of 16. This time they have a squad strong enough to reach the semi-finals at least, and it would be a disappointment if they crash out earlier.
