Sporting Lisbon winger Diego Capel is a target for Premier League side Stoke City, according to reports in The Daily Mail.

The English side are said to have offered £3.8million for the Spanish star, though Sporting are thought to want closer to £7million.

Mark Hughes' side are in the market for a left sided winger having released Matthew Etherington after five and a half years at the club.

With Stoke's American international Brek Shea having yet to settle in England, Hughes has turned his attentions to the twice-capped Spaniard.

After learning his trade in La Liga with Sevilla, 26-year-old Capel has spent the past three seasons in Lisbon, and was a regular in the team which finished second in the Primeira Liga last season.

That second-placed finish sealed a Champions League group stage spot for Sporting, and it may be a tough challenge to convince the pacey wideman to sacrifice the chance to play against Europe's elite.

However, the Premier League is one of the best league's in the world, and that could be a major help to Hughes chances of securing Capel's signature.

Having previously been known for their robust style and long-ball football under former manager Tony Pulis, Stoke deployed an unfamiliar passing game under the tutelage of Hughes last season, and the change in style brought success to the Potteries.

The club finished ninth in the league, their first ever top half Premier League finish, and amassed 50 points, their highest ever tally since returning to the top flight in 2008.

Should he complete a move to Stoke, Capel would add pace and creativity to an already impressive forward-line.

With Stephen Ireland, Marko Arnautovic and Peter Odemwingie often playing behind Peter Crouch, Hughes has plenty of flair at his disposal already, but he's still looking to bolster his options.

As well as Capel, the Daily Mail also claim the former Manchester City, Fulham and Blackburn boss is keen to complete a permanent switch for Oussama Assaidi.

The 25-year-old Moroccan winger spent last season on loan at the Britannia Stadium from Liverpool, and Hughes is reportedly keen on securing a permanent switch.

Like Capel, the winger is valued at £7million, but Stoke are likely to try and bargain with Liverpool in order to secure the services of a man who netted four times in 19 league appearances last season.

Assaidi's most memorable moment in a Stoke shirt came in December 2013 when he scored a spectacular last minute winner against Chelsea, his first ever Premier League goal.
