Cesc Fabregas appears nigh on certain to return transfer to the Premier League in the coming weeks, with Chelsea the clear favourites to conclude a deal for the Barcelona midfielder. Jose Mourinho has declared his interest while a fee has supposedly been agreed, meaning all signs point to Chelsea.
Gerard Pique, club and international colleague of Fabregas, has seemingly leaked information that claims the former Arsenal captain is set for a €33 million transfer, although the destination is yet to be confirmed. But the information says Stamford Bridge will be his destination and, for what it’s worth, bookmakers place Fabregas at 6/1-on to become a Blue.
As speculation about this proposed move to Chelsea intensifies, more prominent figures are being pressed for their respective opinions about the potential deal. It helps that a few of Fabregas’ potential future clubmates are currently on World Cup duty with him when it comes to pushing for newsworthy quotes on the story, and Cesar Azpilicueta is the latest to have had his say.
And the Chelsea full-back, who enjoyed an excellent season for the club, believes Fabregas would be an ideal acquisition for the west London side, with a player comparable to the Barcelona man not currently among their esteemed number.
"At the moment there's nothing official and he's a Barca player," Azpilicueta told reporters.
"All I can say is what I already know about him. He's a great central midfielder with plenty of experience in the Premier League. The best players are always welcome at the best clubs.
"In my personal opinion, he's a special player.
"Few teams have this kind of player in their team, a central midfielder who gets forward really well and has great vision of the game, whilst there's also his statistics, which speak for themselves.
"He can adapt to various positions. Right now, we don’t have a player like Cesc at Chelsea."
