Newcastle United are set to make a swipe for Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback, reports the Journal, according to the Guardian.

Claims come after guests at his wedding said that he seemed to be leaning towards a possible move to Newcastle, with a deal being formulated after he returns from his honeymoon. The 24-year-old will become a free agent on July 1 after his contract ends at Sunderland in June.

Despite manager Gus Poyet’s attempts to persuade the player to stay he has shown no interest in remaining at his current club. West-Ham have also displayed an interest in the newlywed, with reports suggesting they are to offer him a four-year, £50,000 a-week contract which would see him earning £6,000-a-week more than he earns now.

However, he has become settled in the North East with his wife and two young children, which makes a move to St. James Park look likely.

The player is expected to confirm that he is signing for his current club's biggest rivals in the coming days.
