The FedEx St. Jude Classic got underway yesterday and Phil Mickelson made a good start shooting a three under 67 on a weather hit first day at TPC Southwind. With his continuing pursuit of a U.S. Open title resuming next week it’s a good time to find some form for Phil.

Ben crane currently leads the way at 7 under in a strong field.

Michelle Wie had a fantastic start at the Manulife LPGA Classic sharing a joint lead with Hee Young Park at 6 under.

Wie is looking to win her second LPGA tournament of the year, and build on her good form ahead of the US Open at Pinehurst. This is the fourth time in Wie’s career that she has held a first day lead and the first time since 2012.

Michelle has finished in the top ten 7 times this year and has jumped from 100th to 10th in the Rolex World Rankings.

Finally, former tennis world number one, French Open winner and Olympic gold medallist Yevgeny Kafelnikov is continuing his switch to golf by playing in the Lyoness Open in Austria this week. The tennis legend was seven over after the first round which leaves him four shots off the pace to make his first cut in a professional tournament.
