Romelu Lukaku is looking to leave Chelsea, with reports suggesting that the powerful striker has informed the club that he wants to depart this summer.
21-year-old Lukaku has made a real name for himself during consecutive loan stints away from West London in recent seasosn and now, as reported by The Daily Telegraph, the £25 million-rated Belgian international is keen to secure a transfer elsewhere.
Rumours concerning Lukaku's future have been circulating for a number of weeks now, with the likes of Everton - the club with whom he prospered during a season-long stint at Goodison Park during 2013/14 - and La Liga champions Atletico Madrid having been linked with the player along with a plethora of other clubs.
Having arrived at Chelsea from Jupiler Pro League champions Lukaku as a gifted but raw teenager back in 2011, Lukaku has barely been given the chance to showcase his talents in West London and it appears that he has finally conceded defeat in his attempts to prove that he is worthy of a starting berth under Jose Mourinho with the seemingly imminent arrival of Diego Costa.
“You know Chelsea, every year they buy a new top striker,” Lukaku said.
“I remember me coming into the dressing room last year and seeing Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba and going, ‘Whoah! What’s happening here?’
"But no problem. Many clubs are interested in me. At this stage, I have to look to myself. I have to play a good World Cup. That’s very interesting for all the players looking for a transfer. And I must be one of them. Chelsea know my point of view.”
Lukaku's chances of impressing at this summer's Brazilian showpiece have been considerably boosted by Belgium's relatively straightforward group and the absence of Christian Benteke - the Aston Villa frontman who usually leads Marc Wilmots' attack - with an achilles injury sustained back in April.
Although there already appears to be a great deal of interest in Lukaku's signature, a good World Cup showing for the Red Devils could presumably lead to the emergence of even more potential suitors for the Chelsea starlet.
