British sprinter Adam Gemili has finished third in the 100 metres in the Golden League Gala in Rome.
He clocked in a season best, finishing the race in 10.07 seconds, trailing just behind Justin Gatlin and Nesta Carter.
The 20-year old told reporters: “It was my first proper international race and I did well.”
“I have progressed from last week and hopefully I will get quicker and quicker as the season goes on.”
Last weekend the Blackheath and Bromley Harrier ran at a time of 10.08 seconds at the Bedford International Games and was happy to run even faster in Rome.
The runner finished fifth in the 200-metre final of the 2013 World Championships and he will be hoping to close in on that daunting 10-second barrier.
All his hard work this year will come down to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the European Championships in Zurich where the whole nation will be behind him.
