With new manager Mauricio Pochettino now appointed Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a sensational bid to highjack Liverpool's pursuit of Sevilla full back Alberto Moreno.
The Daily Mail has reported that Spurs are ready to offer striker Roberto Soldado on loan, plus midfield flop Etienne Capoue and £14m in order to try and secure the services of one of the best young full-back's in Europe.
At just 21, Moreno would be a brilliant acquisition for Spurs, who have too often been exposed by the inconsistent performances of Danny Rose and Kyle Walker in full-back positions.
Liverpool are said to have offered £20m for Moreno and are still thought to be favourites to land the youngster, however, Sevilla, who value the starlet at £25 million, may find the players plus cash deal offered by Spurs an enticing option.
Moreno is an ambitious talent who has his sights set on staking a permanent claim for the left-back position in the Spanish national team, and a move to a Champions League side such as Liverpool is likely to be a more appealing option.
The inclusion of Soldado and Capoue in this proposed deal are interesting, given the fact they were two of the players cited by Franco Baldini and Andre Villas Boas last summer to lead the post-Gareth Bale Tottenham revolution.
Soldado arrived in the Premier League with the reputation of being a clinical goalscorer, however, he has done very little to justify his £26 million transfer fee and a loan move back to Spain could be the best option in order to try and regain some form before possibly being given a second chance at White Hart Lane.
Capoue's Tottenham career, however, surely looks to be over as the £8m former Toulouse man's form has plummeted since his arrival in London.
The Frenchman fell out of favour significantly as the season wore on and a move away from England now looks a certainty.
Pochettino is clearly looking to stamp his authority on both the club and the transfer market early on in his Spurs career and his pursuit of Moreno will certainly ruffle a couple of feathers at Anfield.
Moreno would be a superb signing for either Rodgers or Pochettino and it could be set to be one of the transfer sagas of the summer.
