Manchester United are increasingly confident of wrapping up a £25m deal for Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller.
According to the Daily Mirror, United believe £25m will be enough to convince Bayern to sell, and that Muller is open to joining the Old Trafford club.
The German international recently discussed his future with the Bundesliga champions, and dropped a subtle hint that he won't be shy to force a move away if he feels the time is right.
"I have now come to the point where I insist to know that I am part of the starting 11 at Bayern Munich," Muller told a German publication.
"I have also demanded to know if the club really want to go forward with me in the next few seasons. I am no longer the type who says, 'OK then, today I will play in this role, next match in that role. Just move me about and I will keep my mouth shut'.
"No, those days are gone."
Van Gaal gave Muller his big chance in the Bayern Munich first team during his time as manager at the Bavarian club, and the report notes the Dutch boss once said of Muller: "With me, Muller will always play."
That hasn't been the case over the past 12 months, with Pep Guardiola often using the Germany forward in fits and starts. He played 90 minutes on less than half of his 51 appearances last season.
But it's his tally of 26 goals from a withdrawn role that has got United interested.
