Arsene Wenger has yet to land his first signing of the summer as he looks to improve his Arsenal squad, but the door may now have been left open for him to sign Bayern Munich forward Mario Mandzukic.
It’s become common knowledge that the Gunners boss is prioritising the purchase of a top quality striker to compete with Olivier Giroud, and the departure of Nicklas Bendtner coupled with the inexperience of back-up Yaya Sanogo has further fuelled his ambitions.
Today it became apparent that the Frenchman has been given good news after it was revealed that Mandzukic, who scored 26 goals last term, now wants to leave Bayern as he doesn’t see himself fitting in with Pep Guardiola’s style of play.
Of course the Croatian isn’t the only forward on Wenger’s radar, and over the weekend a move for Napoli striker Lorenzo Insigne became all the more feasible. The player’s agent claimed that his client was ‘honoured’ by the interest coming from the Emirates Stadium, although it’s thought the Serie A giants would hold out for a massive fee for him.
