Cesc Fabregas is one of the best midfielders in football right now but his dream of the return to his boyhood club looks like it is over. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has stated he is interested in the 27-year-old and is monitoring his situation at Barcelona.
Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has told the world he will be leaving Chelsea ending a 13-year stay and now is the time to bring in a big name to fill the void he is leaving in the middle of the park. With Fabregas entering his best years in football, he is the man to do the job.
He is a fantastic player and can provide the leadership ability in the middle of the park because, having gained vital captaincy experience during his time with Arsenal. He has the same style as Lampard and likes to get forward but is responsible defensive player when he needs to be.
He has a wide array of passing and is strong in the tackle while, unlike Nemanja Matic and Ramires he can finish with aplomb. He also adds creativity along with Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian and Andre Schurrle, which will help Chelsea's forward men achieve that coveted target of 20 goals in a season.
Chelsea look to have agreed the deal to sign Diego Costa, adding another Spaniard to their ranks along with Fernando Torres and Cesar Azpillicueta, and Fabregas might be persuaded during the World Cup to join his international colleagues at Stamford Bridge.
The problems that could stop this transfer from happening is the price tag and wages. Chelsea sold David Luiz to PSG for over £40 million but it looks like majority of that has been spent on bringing in Diego Costa. Fabregas, meanwhile, could cost Chelsea another £30 million.
Chelsea, meanwhile, may cut one or two more players if they can afford Fabregas' wage, with FFP in mind, although the departures of Frank Lampard and Ashely Cole could make room for him.
